AC Installation Cost in Prague: What to Expect

If you are getting your first quotes for air conditioning in Prague, the numbers can look confusing. One installer's price might cover labor only, another includes everything, and a third quotes just the unit. To compare offers properly, it helps to know what a full installation is actually made of - and why the same job can be priced very differently by different companies.

What makes up the total price

The final price for a working air conditioning system is made up of four separate parts: the indoor and outdoor unit itself, the labor of installing it, the materials used to connect the two units, and the refrigerant charged into the system once it is mounted. Each part varies by job - a longer run between the indoor and outdoor unit means more material and more labor, and a higher-output unit costs more than a basic one. A proper quote should show all four, ideally after someone has actually looked at your space rather than guessed over the phone.

The unit itself

Unit prices depend on output, brand and type - a simple wall-mounted split, a ceiling cassette unit, or a larger outdoor unit feeding a multi-split system with several indoor units. We install units from established brands including Daikin, Samsung, LG, Mitsubishi Electric, Panasonic, GREE and Toshiba, and prices differ between models and power classes. As a rough guide, unit prices on the market range from a few thousand crowns for basic models up to tens of thousands for more powerful or quieter versions. The right unit and output for your space is sized based on an on-site survey, so you are not paying for more capacity than the room needs.

Installation (labor) cost

Installation covers mounting both units, running the line between them, and wiring the whole system so it is ready to be charged with refrigerant. • Apartment or small office (unit up to 3.5 kW, up to 40 m²) - installation from 6,900 CZK.
• Medium-size spaces (unit 3.5-5 kW, 40-80 m²) - installation from 8,900 CZK.
• Larger spaces, offices or multi-split systems - quoted individually based on scope.

Labor cost rises mainly with the length of the line between indoor and outdoor units and how difficult the walls are to run it through - a new-build apartment with a short, straight run is a very different job from a prefab block or a period building with thick masonry.

Materials and refrigerant

Installation materials include the refrigerant piping, power and signal cabling, the outdoor unit's wall bracket, trunking to cover exposed lines, and the condensate drain. The longer the line between the two units, the more material the job uses, and the amount also depends on whether the line stays on one floor or crosses several - all of that gets worked out during the survey, so the quote reflects the real job rather than an average one. The last component is the refrigerant itself - most new units run on R32, charged into the circuit in a precisely specified amount once the system has been pressure-tested. Charging refrigerant should only be done by a technician holding a valid F-gas certification, and it is worth asking any installer directly whether their technicians hold one.

Why quotes vary so much

When you compare quotes from different companies, check whether the number covers all four components or only some of them. A cheap-looking labor price with no mention of the unit, materials or refrigerant tells you very little about what you will actually pay - extra charges for a longer line, additional material, or a refrigerant top-up tend to show up once the work has already started. It makes comparing offers much simpler and avoids surprises at the end of the job.

Add the unit, installation, materials and refrigerant together, and a smaller residential split typically comes to roughly 27,990 CZK all in.
